This is kind of old work - over five years ago I think. . .

This is the card box that Yugi keeps his Millenium Puzzle in. . .

. . .Ok, if you don't believe that, then it's the card box that my sister keeps her deck in. I woodburned this box for her birthday.

If you're interested in the process, I used actual images from the anime/manga (no fan art here) and transfered the outline with graphite transfer paper. I made the images into grayscale on my ooooold photo editing program called Microsoft PhotoDraw, which, by the way, does NOT work at ALL on XP. This was on my '98 computer before I switched to XP (and got CS2 ) I'd be surprised if anyone else has heard of it. Raise your hand if you have!

I used the grayscale images as reference when burning the wood, so I could get the relative light/darkness correct. I basically just used the all-purpose universal nib for the whole thing, thin edge for outlines, and sides for shading. I let the wood grain give texture to the image - I think it looks pretty nice. There is no coating on this piece - I've yet to experiment with what makes a good clear finish without dulling the burning. Let me know if any of you know of any good products. . .

As for preparing the box, it already had stain and finish on it, so I had to scrape very carefully, and then sand, the top off to reveal the wood underneath. As you can see, the original wood isn't dark, lol. It makes a very nice contrast and nice bright white surface to burn on. Details are here: [link] .

I did not make the box, by the way. . . I bought it at WalMart, and they still have similar boxes with the same finish that would make exellent projects. . . In fact, I have the exact same box for me that I still need to decide on an image for. . .
